Alan M. Shukovsky joined The Waldorf Astoria as Director of Social Catering in 2007. Shukovsky's responsibilities at the venerable New York City property include the management of all social events, including high-profile galas, large-scale corporate occasions, weddings and other private affairs. "My team and I are responsible for continuing the growth of The Waldorf Astoria's successful social catering department," says Shukovsky. "The Waldorf is possibly the most romanticized property in the world. It is immediately synonymous with elegance, sophistication and grace, and I'm thrilled to be a part of its history."
Shukovsky served in the U.S. Navy at numerous military commands from 1991-1995. During this time, he operated as a Rescue Swimmer and Damage Control man and was stationed in the Persian Gulf, numerous locations throughout Asia, and at several posts in the United States. He continued his education during his service, majoring in computer engineering from Central Texas College and the University of Maryland. While at college, Shukovsky worked part-time for a small catering business. When he graduated in 1996, he realized that this hobby had become a full-blown interest and he decided to pursue it further. His first foray into the catering business was as the Catering Sales Manager at Long Island City's Water's Edge Restaurant, followed by a promotion to Director of Catering and Operations. After four years at this establishment, Shukovsky accepted the Director of Catering position at Crystal Plaza in Livingston, NJ, where he exceeded annual budget expectations of $6 million and arranged all strategic partnerships. In early 2003, he opened The Palace at Somerset Park, NJ, as the Director of Catering, realizing $10.5 million in revenue in the opening year and exceeding first year projections by almost 20 percent. Shukovsky most recently served as Director of Catering for Starr Restaurant Organization's popular eateries Buddakan and Morimoto, the namesake restaurant of The Food Network's Iron Chef. Shukovsky was instrumental in both their opening and development of their Catering and Special Event Departments.
Shukovsky's interests include reading, a fascination with President Reagan, martial arts, and the New York Yankees. Shukovsky is a Member of the James Beard House President's Council and a Master of Wine and Wine Service after studying at Wine Services International, New York.
Alexandra Gladstone joined the Waldorf Astoria Social Catering Team in the summer of 2008. She is responsible for the management of intimate and grand scale social events ranging from birthday and anniversary celebrations, rehearsal dinners and brunches to weddings and the annual debutante balls held in New York City. Alexandra's experience in event planning for large social gatherings like weddings and dinner parties, as well her experience in the non-profit sector with fundraising galas, combined with an educational background in consulting and marketing have enabled her to excel in the catering market.
Alexandra studied at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia and then returned back home to the tri-state area to pursue her career in event planning. Starting at the well-recognized fundraising events firm Susan Ulin Associates Ltd., Alexandra became exposed to large scale events held at the various venues throughout New York City. After honing her skills, she continued to the historic University Club on Fifth Avenue and was the catering manager there from 2004-2008, where she handled various corporate events and was the on-site coordinator for all weddings.
Kym, Jackie and Zachary assist The Waldorf Astoria’s Brides and Grooms with a multitude of guest room needs.
